Refractory mortar
Refractory mortar is an unshaped refractory material used as a joint of refractory brick or block, also known as joint material. It is composed of a certain proportion of refractory powder and a binder and an admixture, and is adjusted into a slurry by adding water or a liquid binder.
Refractory mortar can be divided into three types according to the characteristics of coagulation and hardening of its binder, which are hydraulic, thermosetting and gas-hard. The hydraulic refractory mortar is made of cement as a binder, which can be used at room temperature or where it may be in contact with water or water vapor. The thermosetting refractory mortar is usually made of a thermosetting binder such as phosphoric acid or phosphate. After the mortar is hardened, in addition to high strength at various temperatures, the shrinkage is small, the joints are tight, and the corrosion resistance is strong. The gas-hard refractory mortar is usually prepared by a gas-hardening binder such as sodium silicate, which can make the joint of the masonry tight.
